This Week at HardVolume: The Open is upon us, and Josh shoots a video!Posted by Eric on 02/22/2016
This Thursday Feb. 25th at 5:00pm PT will mark the announcement of the first of the 5 CrossFit Games Open Workouts. Literally hundreds of thousands of athletes from all over the world will be competing in the Open for its 5-week duration, before top qualifiers move on to compete at Regionals, and then from there, to the CrossFit Games in Carson, CA in July. We have been talking about the Open at the gym for the last several weeks, but if you would like to read some detailed information about the CrossFit Games Open and how it works, click here.
The Open is a great way to experience the competitive side of CrossFit, to add a new level of intensity to your training and focus, and to see how you compare to other athletes around the world. Even if you are relatively new to CrossFit, scaled versions of the Open workouts will be announced alongside the rx’d workouts, so everyone, no matter what their level of skill and ability, can participate. If you are interested in signing up for the Open on the CrossFit Games website, click here to go to the Registration page. Even if you decide not sign up for the Open on the CrossFit Games website but still want to do the workouts with one of the Coaches judging your movements, you will have the opportunity during the weekend Open Gym hours (Saturdays 10:00am-1:30pm and Sundays 12:00pm-2:00pm), when we will be coaching and judging the Open workouts. Join us at the gym this Friday Feb. 26th, during the evening Open Gym from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, for a small CrossFit Open kickoff potluck gathering! We’ll be coaching and judging the workout for whoever wants to do it; you can also bring whatever food, snacks, or beverages you like and come hang out and enjoy some good times with us.
This weekend our schedule will be a little bit different, however – as you may have heard, our very own Coach Josh Purcell (a.k.a. Fonzi) will be filming a video for the CrossFit-inspired track “The Recipe” from his most recent album “Arm The Homeless.” To accommodate the video shoot, on Saturday Feb. 27, there will be no Human Movement or Mobility Classes; instead, from 7:30am to 10:00am it will be Open Gym, with the gym closing at 10:00am. On Sunday Feb. 28, there will be no Lifting 101 Class; it will be Open Gym from 9:00am to 10:30am, with the gym closing at 10:30am. The following weekend, we will resume our normal schedule. You can check out “Arm The Homeless” for free on bandcamp.com, or by clicking on the players below. Give it a listen!
